Cheddar Parish Council has been given the opportunity to apply for funding to make major improvements to the pavilion at Sharpham Road Playing Fields through the Hinkley Point Community Impact Mitigation Fund and we would like your views.
The aim is to provide a versatile facility, including a leisure hall, function room and bar, which could be used for a wide range of activities, including youth and toddler groups, fitness and dance classes, choirs, U3A groups, private parties and much more.
It will not have a fitness suite or pool, so will not compete with Kings Leisure Centre and we are not wanting to take bookings from the other halls in the village. However, with the projected new housing growth in Cheddar further leisure facilities will be needed. The pavilion will benefit from its location at the playing fields close to the children’s play area, with good car parking.
The council is currently preparing to bid for the funds in mitigation for the impact on the village from the large number of HGVs carrying stone from Batts Combe Quarry to Hinkley Point.
Residents are asked to contact the parish clerk giving their views on the effect of the quarry contract on Cheddar and with suggestions for activities they would like to see in the new pavilion.
