Cheddar Parish Council is pleased to announce that the newly refurbished Daghole public toilets have reopened to residents and visitors today, following a full programme of modernisation works.
The refurbishment project began in December 2025 and has been delivered on time and on budget, marking a significant milestone in the Parish Council’s ongoing commitment to protecting and improving essential community facilities.
Cheddar is one of Somerset’s most visited villages, welcoming more than half a million visitors each year. Public conveniences are therefore a vital service for both local residents and the wider visitor economy.
In April 2025, ownership of the Daghole toilets was formally transferred to Cheddar Parish Council after Somerset Council’s countywide decision to withdraw funding from public toilet provision. Since then, the Parish Council has worked to secure the long-term future of the facilities and ensure that this important service remains available in the heart of the village.
The toilets are professionally managed by DANFO UK, one of the market leaders in public toilet provision, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and ongoing maintenance.
The refurbishment has been carried out by contractors Danfo and APS Construction, and includes:
- A complete internal strip-out and redesign
- Modern direct-access cubicles
- Improved accessibility and reliability
- A new storeroom and upgraded internal layout
- Enhancements that complement the nearby Garden of Fragrance
